“The recent presidential and parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova have demonstrated the strong desire of society to align with the West. This has been duly recognized by the European Commission, which granted Moldova the status of a candidate country for the European Union in June 2022. Now is a crucial moment for Europe to reciprocate the Moldovan society’s aspirations and take a firm stance against Russia’s aggressive actions. With swift action, political support for Moldova’s European path could be sufficient to protect it from Russia’s attempts to gain further control in the region,” stated the Declaration of Establishment of the support network for the Republic of Moldova.
Representatives from the Parliament of Chisinau emphasized that “United for Moldova” has a mission to facilitate coordination and support on the following priority topics for the country:
- Integration process into the EU – initiation of negotiations and gradual integration of Moldova into the EU single market.
- Countering Russian disinformation and other hybrid threats.
- Enhancing regional security and energy security in Moldova.
- Combating corruption and strengthening the rule of law.
- Financial support and assistance.
- Reassessing and revitalizing efforts to find a political solution for Transnistria, with the help of the European Union and the West.
The “United for Moldova” Network will convene both physically and online and will include politicians, experts, and opinion leaders from across Europe. The first online meeting is scheduled to take place on May 23, 2023.
The formation of this network signifies a strong commitment to supporting the Republic of Moldova in its European integration journey. By bringing together key stakeholders and fostering collaboration, “United for Moldova” aims to accelerate the country’s progress towards European standards and values, while addressing critical challenges and promoting regional stability.
