The United States welcomes the completion of the independent audit commissioned by the Government of the Republic of Moldova and conducted by an external company to examine Gazprom’s claims against Moldovagaz.
“It should not come as a surprise that Gazprom could not justify the exorbitant bill that Russia expected the Moldovan people to pay,” stated the U.S. Department of State.
At the same time, the United States reaffirmed its support for the ongoing efforts of the Republic of Moldova to diversify its sources of energy and ensure a more prosperous and transparent future for its people.
It’s worth noting that an audit conducted by two foreign companies at the request of the authorities in ChiÈ™inău demonstrated that a significant portion of the historical debts claimed by the Russian concern Gazprom had not been confirmed. The Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, stated that the ChiÈ™inău government is prepared to pay Gazprom only 8.6 out of the over 700 million demanded.
