Victor Parlicov: ‘This winter, we enter with natural gas tariffs 40% lower’

If we brought the buildings to the current average energy performance of the European Union, we could have already halved our bills with current energy prices.

“Over 50% of the energy consumed in Moldova is for maintaining buildings”, says Energy Minister Victor Parlicov.

To reduce bills, he emphasizes focusing on consumption reduction by improving energy efficiency. The government approved the creation of the National Center for Sustainable Energy, transforming the former Energy Efficiency Agency into a financial instrument.

Plans include national financing programs for residential consumers and public buildings. Next year, 30 buildings will receive support for transitioning to a horizontal heat distribution system, thermal insulation, and minimal works to reduce consumption, with an initial subsidy exceeding 50%.

The minister also mentions a program to replace old household equipment with energy-efficient ones, initially targeting vulnerable families. Results will guide a national program through the National Center for Sustainable Energy.

Minister Parlicov anticipates “a downward trend in prices next year, with gas tariffs 40% lower, thermal energy 20% lower in Bălți and Chișinău, and electricity tariffs 30% lower.”
