(VIDEO) Ambassador Janis Mazeiks: “Europe Is Not Just a Place – Europe Is YOU”

“Europe is not just a place. Europe is an idea. Europe is a choice. Europe is your family. And Europe is YOU,” declared Janis Mazeiks, the EU Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, in his message on Europe Day, celebrated on May 9.

Ambassador Mazeiks emphasized that Europe Day honors unity, peace, and prosperity—core values that bind nations as they build a shared future within the European family. “Peace is the foundation on which everything else stands. A country that chooses war, destruction, and oppression chooses a path of corruption and lawlessness,” he stated.

He pointed to Russia’s war against Ukraine as a stark reminder of what truly matters. “Moldova has felt the weight of Russian pressure—economic intimidation, energy blackmail, and disinformation campaigns aimed at dividing society. But Moldova stood firm. Moldova remains strong. Because Moldova is not alone,” said the Ambassador.

“The European Union stands with you,” he added. “When a Moldovan farmer exports to EU markets, when a student studies abroad through Erasmus+, when a village gains access to clean water with EU support—these are real changes in real lives.”

Mazeiks called on Moldovans to reaffirm their commitment to peace, prosperity, and dignity. “These are the values that unite us and make us strong. Because Europe is not just a place. Europe is an idea. Europe is a choice. Europe is your family. And Europe is YOU,” he concluded.
