(VIDEO) Chisinau Expands Three Main Roads: City Hall Signs Contract with the EBRD

On August 19, municipal authorities signed a contract with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to finance Chisinau’s Urban Infrastructure Development Project. The agreement outlines plans to expand and modernize three major roads: Mircea cel Batran Boulevard, Mesager Street, and Industriala Street. The contract also includes the development of green corridors throughout the city.

“This project will be implemented over the coming years, and we will keep citizens informed at every stage. It’s a massive effort carried out with my team, and I want to congratulate them and thank our partners at EBRD for their trust and support,” said Mayor Ion Ceban.

The total value of the project reaches 1.5 billion lei, equivalent to €74.3 million. Of this amount, €68.2 million comes from the EBRD loan agreement.

An additional €6.1 million will be provided as grant funding. This includes a €1.9 million investment grant for the development of the “Lake 4” area in “La Izvor” Park—part of the green corridor and natural space initiative—and €4.2 million in technical assistance grants to support project implementation.

Municipal officials previously described this initiative as one of the largest urban development projects in Moldova.
