The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, sent a message on Facebook immediately after polling stations in the country closed at 21:00. She thanked Moldovans who voted both at home and abroad and emphasized the essential role of civic participation.

“Thank you to Moldovans at home and abroad for participating in the vote! In Moldova, polling stations closed at 21:00, but in some countries, they are still open. Go and vote!” Maia Sandu urged.

The electoral process ended in the Republic of Moldova, but Moldovans abroad still have the opportunity to vote according to the time zone of the countries where polling stations remain open. By 21:00, over 159 thousand registered voters—just over 51%—had cast their ballots.

After voting ended, Igor Grosu, leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS), made the first statements from party headquarters. He thanked citizens for their participation and highlighted the historic importance of the September 28 parliamentary elections.

“I want to begin by thanking all those who went to the polling stations, who answered our call to take part in a very important decision for the Republic of Moldova, one that will determine the country’s future not only for the next four years but for many years to come. Throughout the day, we saw attempts by criminal groups supported by the Russian Federation to interfere in the electoral process—attempts to destabilize the situation, bomb alarms, and other provocations both in Moldova and abroad. We will wait for more details from the legal institutions and the Central Electoral Commission,” Grosu declared.

He also addressed the political class:

“I ask you to think first and foremost about the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, about the future of this country, and not about selfish party interests. I am confident that our legal institutions will do everything necessary to maintain peace and stability for the proper conduct of the electoral process.”

The Central Electoral Commission will present preliminary results. Voting continues in several countries where the time zone differs from Moldova, including Canada and the United States of America, where polls will close at 07:00, Chisinau time.
