Mayor Ion Ceban stated that a new water operator will appear in the northern part of the country and claimed that authorities left residents without water for nearly ten days to enable this development.

“In addition to distracting public attention, this is meant to bring in a foreign operator to provide water and sewage services in the north of the country. I have no other explanation,” Ceban said.

The mayor also argued that authorities deliberately created the recent commotion around water issues to divert attention from the country’s serious problems.

“The government only imposes restrictions; it does nothing and prevents people from speaking out. People are forced to focus on water issues and the problems in the north, and it is very, very difficult. No public tests have been carried out to this day. I have not seen any official test results,” he added.

The Commission for Emergency Situations of the municipality of Bălți required restaurants, cafés, and all public catering businesses in the city that lack access to drinking water to temporarily suspend their activity and notify the territorial subdivision of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA).

Authorities stated that the measure aims to protect public health and ensure compliance with sanitary regulations amid the lack of drinking water. The decision is mandatory for all affected economic operators.
