Maia Sandu, the President of Moldova, granted an interview to Russian journalist Iurii Dudi. The interviewer asked her about the hypothetical accession of the country to Romania. The president ruled out such a possibility.
“The best thing for Moldova, and especially realistic, is to become a member of the European Union. And then we will have neither a border with Romania nor other European countries. We will meet Romania in the European Union. We will have a referendum for European integration. And I will vote for European integration. I promised this to people. I will do what I promised,” Sandu said.
The referendum on Moldova’s accession to the European Union will be on October 20. The Constitutional Court of Moldova recognized it as compliant with the country’s law.
