(VIDEO) Maia Sandu, with her supporters, exercised her right to vote: Moldovans must decide their fate!

The Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) candidate, Maia Sandu, who is running for a new term as President of the Republic of Moldova, exercised her right to vote around 11:00. Maia Sandu came accompanied by a group of supporters. The polling station where Maia Sandu voted was attended by supporters, Moldovan, and international journalists. There was a huge crowd at the polling station and for several minutes Maia Sandu could not start her speech. “Moldova, let’s vote!” the supporters chanted.

“Dear citizens, get out to vote. This Sunday, we are making two important decisions for our country. Take two ballot papers, vote in the referendum, and elect the President of the Republic of Moldova for the next four years. Our referendum vote will decide our fate for many decades to come.
I voted because Moldovans must determine their fate. Not others, not dirty money, not lies, but the people’s will. I voted so that the Republic of Moldova can develop in peace and freedom so that Moldova can build the future it wants and deserves. Go out and vote. Everyone’s vote is important. Voting is the choice for how you will live starting tomorrow. We want Moldovans to decide their fate, that’s why I urge all citizens to go out and vote for their future and for the future of their children,” said Maia Sandu.

In the same speech, the current President also addressed Moldovans living in the Diaspora.

“Dear citizens in the Diaspora, I know that you are worried about your loved ones back home. Come out to vote so that your loved ones back home can live in peace”, concluded Maia Sandu.

On October 20, 2024, the Republic of Moldova will hold presidential elections and a referendum on accession to the European Union. Officials expect around three million citizens to vote.

Voters will choose one of the 11 candidates vying to become president of Moldova: Alexandr Stoianoglo, Maia Sandu, Renato Usatii, Vasile Tarlev, Irina Vlah, Ion Chicu, Andrei Nastase, Octavian Ticu, Victoria Furtuna, Tudor Ulianovschi and Natalia Morari.
