(VIDEO) Mayor Ion Ceban, on Romanian Language Day: “What I wish least is for the language to be a reason for division”

Mayor of Chisinau, Ion Ceban, delivered a message on Romanian Language Day, celebrated annually on August 31, during a morning press conference organized by the “Alternativa” Bloc. He emphasized the importance of cultivating the Romanian language within families, schools, and daily life, ensuring it passes from one generation to the next.

“I want our language to serve communication, the exchange of ideas, learning, mutual understanding, and singing. I least want our language to divide society or to become a campaign tool for politicians,” Ceban declared.

In the morning, Ion Ceban laid flowers at the bust of poet Mihai Eminescu on the Alley of Classics in the “Stefan cel Mare si Sfant” Public Garden, paying homage to Romanian cultural and linguistic values.

Later, employees of Chisinau City Hall continued the gesture by laying flowers at the same site, paying tribute to great Romanian literary personalities.

The Republic of Moldova and Romania jointly celebrate Romanian Language Day, reaffirming their shared cultural and linguistic heritage. Each year, local and central authorities organize cultural events dedicated to the Romanian language and literary heritage. Romanian President Nicusor Dan also took part in the celebration in Chisinau.
