(VIDEO) Mihai Popsoi announces when will close the Russian Center of Culture and Science definitively. What does Maria Zakharova Declare

The Ministry of Culture is drafting the agreement under which the Russian Center for Culture and Science in Chisinau operates, Mihai Popsoi stated. According to him, the formalities could take several months.

Chisinau’s top diplomat clarified that they will inform the Russian side upon the decision to terminate the agreement as soon as Parliament votes. Popsoi emphasized that Moldovan authorities have nothing against the Russian language or culture but stressed that the institution is working to undermine the country’s sovereignty.

“This proposal will go to Parliament for denunciation, after which we will notify the Russian side. Our initiative has nothing to do with the propagandistic criticism directed at us. We have nothing against the Russian language or culture—we greatly appreciate both. However, when this center actively undermines Moldova’s integrity and engages in subversive activities, our response is entirely justified,” Popsoi stated.

Maria Zakharova previously claimed that if Chisinau officially notifies Moscow of the agreement’s termination, the Russian Center for Culture and Science could continue operating until mid-2026.

On February 13, 2025, Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Russia’s designated ambassador, Oleg Ozerov. The diplomat was informed that, following the explosion of three Russian drones with explosive payloads in the southern part of the country, Chisinau decided to shut down the Russian Center for Culture and Science.

The Kremlin responded by demanding proof that the drones had been launched by Russian forces and accused Kyiv of alleged provocations.
