On Thursday and Friday, Vice Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, is in Brussels to discuss Chapter 22 of the EU accession negotiations with representatives of Moldova’s public institutions. This chapter focuses on regional policy and the coordination of structural instruments — the way the EU supports the development of regions and communities in member and candidate states, as well as the management of European funds for Moldova.

Corneliu Cirimpei, State Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, said these talks are crucial for Moldova’s localities. He stressed that all villages and towns will gain equal chances for development through this European mechanism. He also highlighted the potential for stronger regional cooperation with EU partners, bringing investments in road infrastructure, social services, and environmental projects.

Mihaela Sticea, Referent for Chapter 22 in the Office for European Integration, explained that Moldova already benefits from cohesion policy projects under the Interreg 2021– 2027 program. She noted that if Moldova fully implements these policies, the country will access and manage far more European funds and accelerate modernization.

Ghenadie Marian, Head of the Office for European Integration, underlined the importance of structural funds in reducing disparities between urban and rural areas. He explained that these resources will help close the development gap and create better living conditions for citizens in both towns and villages. According to Marian, proper fund management will drive infrastructure modernization, local economic growth, and stronger public services.

The Brussels discussions mark another step in Moldova’s EU accession negotiations.
