The Moldovan Ambassador to Bucharest, Victor Chirila, warned that other individuals might collaborate with the secret services of foreign states. In an interview with Agerpres, he pointed to the espionage cases involving Alexandru Balan, the former head of the Information and Security Service, and Ion Creanga, a former Parliament official.

Chirila highlighted that Moldova’s security institutions have increased their efficiency, largely due to cooperation with European partners. “This is not the first case. Authorities already arrested another Parliament employee for spying for another country. These cases prove that representatives of foreign states infiltrated our institutions. But we are glad that, in the end, we exposed them. We achieve this thanks to collaboration with the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, the European Union in general, and Romania in particular. So yes, others might exist — I don’t know, I can’t say — but we are monitoring them,” Chirila said.

He emphasized that security institutions have become more effective both because their officers have improved professionally and because international partners support them. “Once again, we prove that only together with our partners can we face challenges to our security. We must continue on this path,” the ambassador concluded.
