On Friday, November 29, the Moldovan Leu celebrated 31 years since its introduction into circulation. To mark the occasion, the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) is issuing commemorative coins.
Anca Dragu, the Governor of the National Bank, shared a message for citizens:
“Dear Moldovans, at the end of the 18th century, during a turning point in European history, Georges Danton posed a question whose depth remains remarkably relevant today: Can we carry our homeland on the soles of our shoes? The National Bank is making sustained efforts to pave the way for secure and modern digital payment solutions, which are already present in Europe and worldwide. The Republic of Moldova is part of the larger European family and is now a visible presence on the map of digitalization. A concrete example is the success of the instant payment solution – MIA. Through its role and activities, the National Bank ensures that the Moldovan Leu remains not only a symbol of national identity but also one of progress and stability,” Anca Dragu wrote on Facebook.
