(VIDEO) The President’s message to the Moldovan Olympians: “You have made history”

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, delivered a message to the Olympians who returned home on Monday, August 12.

“You have made history. For the first time since gaining independence, the Republic of Moldova has achieved such a high number of medals. Congratulations, and thank you to all 26 of you. You were amazing! Medals and victories in sports are not just awards; they prove that we are a society of winners. We have reasons to be proud and should celebrate them more often,” stated the head of state.

Maia Sandu is confident that Moldova will also secure a fifth Olympic medal once the result of weightlifter Marin Robu, who finished fourth, is reevaluated. The Moldova Weightlifting Federation, in agreement with the National Olympic and Sports Committee, contested the result, arguing that judges scored Robu’s opponent incorrectly.
