Two polling stations have opened in Iasi, Romania, for the presidential elections and the constitutional referendum. According to nordnews.md, over 10,000 citizens are expected to exercise their right to vote.
Many voters at the polling station at the “Casa de Cultura a StudenČ›ilor” in IaČ™i expressed their hopes for a strong European future. One voter stated, “I want our choices today to influence our future toward prosperity and Europe.”
In this election, Moldovans will select a new president from among 11 candidates and vote on a referendum to amend the constitution to allow Moldova to join the European Union.
When asked about the future of the Republic of Moldova in the next four years based on their vote for the president and the EU accession referendum, one voter said – “I see it firmly within the great European family, where Moldova truly belongs. I voted for my future and the future of my children.”
Regarding expectations for the future president, another voter shared, “I hope that in the next 5 to 10 years, we will be free and independent from everything associated with the Soviet past.”
A message for those hesitant to vote was clear: “Those who don’t vote lose—first and foremost, they lose the right to determine their fate.”
Students, doctors, and rescuers working in Iași participated in the voting, hoping their votes would bring about significant change. Many called on their compatriots, at home and abroad, to engage actively in the electoral process.
Ion Coșeru, president of the 181st electoral office in Iași, emphasized that the voting process is proceeding smoothly, without technical issues or incidents, and reflects a diverse demographic turnout. By 11:00, nearly 400 Moldovans had already cast their ballots.
“Per precinct, we have 5,000 ballots for the presidential election and 5,000 for the referendum. Since 7 a.m., we have welcomed a very diverse group of voters of all ages,” said Ion Coseru.
More than 2.7 million voters are expected to participate in the presidential election and constitutional referendum. The second polling station in IaČ™i is at the primary school “Gheorghe Asachi,” on Stefan cel Mare and Holy Stefan Boulevard.
