Six days before the second round of the presidential elections, Renato Usatii, chairman of the Our Party, held a press briefing to announce his position on Sunday’s elections. The politician said he would not support either of the two candidates.
Renato Usatii made a strong statement against supporting the current president, Maia Sandu, and the PAS government, after their respective four- and three-year terms. “After discussions with party colleagues and consultations with citizens over the past week, I can say with full certainty that neither I nor Our Party will support Maia Sandu,” he said.
Usatii also clarified his stance on the ongoing election. “Today, in the second round, the Socialist Party’s candidate is Alexandr Stoianoglo. Since 2014, the party’s leadership, headed by Igor Dodon, has tried to undermine Our Party and me. This struggle has persisted for a decade. In 2014, under agreements between Plahotniuc and Dodon, Our Party was unjustly excluded from the elections, preventing me from participating in the parliamentary race—a first in Moldovan history where a party was barred just days before the election.”

Reflecting on previous elections, Usatii said, “Since 2016, I’ve refused to endorse specific candidates. After recent consultations, I affirm that I won’t vote for any candidate. I have no authority over how others—whether they supported me or not—choose to vote. Do as you see fit.”
In the October 20 election, Usatii received 13.79% of the vote. Now, Maia Sandu and Alexandr Stoianoglo will face off in the November 3 runoff, with citizens once again heading to the polls to decide Moldova’s next head of state.
In related updates, the Communist Party announced its support for Stoianoglo, the Socialist candidate. Irina Vlah plans to campaign in various Moldovan regions before deciding whom to endorse, while Tudor Ulianovschi stated he will not support either candidate. Vasile Tarlev and Natalia Morari encouraged voters to oppose Maia Sandu, while Victoria Furtună and Andrei Nastase have not publicly shared their intentions.
