Alexei Buzu stated that protesting against the reform of local public administration in the center of Chisinau is a cynical act. He argued that while the reform can be discussed, adjusted, and improved, postponing it would lead to increasingly depopulated villages and fewer development opportunities.

His reaction came after supporters of the National Alternative Movement (MAN), led by Ion Ceban, protested in front of the government, expressing dissatisfaction with the reform concept.

Buzu said that such protests show a lack of concern for rural communities, where mayors must handle numerous responsibilities despite local administrations having only about 11% own revenues in their budgets.

He criticized Ion Ceban, accusing him of opposing modernization efforts and failing to address key issues in the capital, such as traffic congestion, public transport quality, parking shortages, and poor courtyard conditions. According to Buzu, these attacks are meant to mask governance shortcomings.

At the same time, Buzu stressed that many citizens have moved from rural areas to Chisinau not because of local leadership, but due to better access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and jobs in the capital.

The official urged political actors to avoid turning the reform into a political confrontation and instead focus on improving it. He emphasized that strengthening local administrations, encouraging cooperation between communities, and enabling mayors to attract investment are key goals of the reform.

Meanwhile, MAN representatives stated that, although the reform is necessary, it should only be implemented after extensive consultations with citizens.
