The windmill, located in the village of Beșalma, can be seen from the main street as it stands on the hill behind the village. It has been here since the beginning of the 20th century. In its early days, the mill used to grind wheat and corn into flour. It is still functional to this day, occasionally being operated. Local residents say that several parts of the mill are made of acacia wood because it is exceptionally sturdy. One distinctive feature of the Beșalma windmill is the wheel that the miller used to rotate it from the side where the wind blew, spinning in a circular motion.
Once upon a time, there were many windmills in Gagauzia. In the village of Beșalma, around the year 1950, there were 64 windmills. However, during the Soviet era, most of them were dismantled as they were deemed unnecessary.
