The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, has shared a message for the American people on the social media platform X.

The World Trade Center had previously experienced a bombing attack in 1993. President George W. Bush was thousands of kilometers away in Florida, attending a meeting with students. The image of his advisor whispering that a terrible accident had occurred in New York just four minutes after the first impact and the President’s stunned expression remain etched in history.

At 09:37, the third plane crashed into the Pentagon, the heart of America’s military. Chaos spread to Washington, where authorities evacuated the White House and the Capitol. The U.S. airspace closed, and all planes had to land at the nearest airport. Back in New York, the disaster was unfolding live on television, growing ever more catastrophic.
At 09:59, the South Tower collapsed in just 10 seconds. A fourth plane crashed in Pennsylvania. On the site, rescue teams discovered a massive impact area. At 10:28, the North Tower, which had been the first to be hit, also collapsed.
