A total of 71 candidates had been registered for seats in the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia as of October 8. Of them, 30 are running on behalf of political parties, while 41 are independent candidates.
At the same time, the electoral councils in Comrat, Ceadir-Lunga and Vulcanesti still have 66 applications to review. So far, only one candidacy has been rejected.
In total, 138 people have been nominated across the 35 electoral constituencies. The electoral councils must rule on each application within seven days of its submission.
The deadline for submitting documents to participate in the election was October 6. The period leading up to the start of the electoral campaign will follow, with the campaign scheduled to begin on October 16.
The elections for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia and the position of Bashkan are scheduled for November 15.
