Norway Commits €50 Million to Moldova’s EU Integration Reforms

During the European Political Community (EPC) Summit in Chișinău on Thursday, June 1st, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, announced that Norway would allocate approximately €50 million to support the implementation of reforms in Moldova’s path to European Union (EU) accession.

“We support the democratic development of this part of Europe. The choice of the Moldovan people is modernization and the path to the EU. It is a right step that we will support politically. The drama is Russia’s war against Ukraine. Being a neighbor to war is complicated, especially when undertaking reforms. Norway will support Ukraine politically, militarily, and humanitarianly. Norway will support the Republic of Moldova. This year, we allocate €50 million to Moldova. We appreciate the environment in Moldova; we are impressed,” stated Jonas Gahr Støre.

President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, who accompanied him at the press briefing, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister.

“I thank Prime Minister Støre for the support that Norway provides to Moldova and for the recent decision regarding approximately €50 million granted to the Republic of Moldova. We will discuss how these resources will be used. They are important for our country.”

According to Bani.md, the Republic of Moldova has established bilateral relations with the Kingdom of Norway for over 30 years. Together with other states, Norway has made significant contributions to managing the refugee crisis caused by the war in Ukraine. Oslo has approved the Nansen Program, providing non-military and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine and Moldova’s civil recovery from the consequences of the war, spanning a five-year period.
