The political and diplomatic relationship between Bucharest and Chisinau is a top priority for Romania’s foreign policy, being a very special one, with deep linguistic, historical, cultural, and spiritual ties, stated Romanian foreign minister Luminița Odobescu in her speech at the annual convention of the Moldovan diplomatic service, IPN reports.
“In these difficult times, with a merciless and cruel war on our borders and with consequences on multiple dimensions, Romania is and will always be there for Moldova in any circumstances, for better, but especially for worse. We will continue to do everything we can to see a sovereign, territorially integrated Republic of Moldova, a strong Republic of Moldova, and a member of the European Union. Between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, there is excellent cooperation”, declared Luminița Odobescu.
According to Luminița Odobescu, sectoral cooperation is more dynamic than ever and is oriented towards concrete, practical results for the benefit of citizens. “We need new energy interconnections, the expansion of transport, and border crossing infrastructure. We are working together on the implementation of projects dedicated to these objectives. The record level of bilateral trade is also gratifying and we intend to capitalize on the potential we have to continue in this direction”, declared the Romanian foreign minister.
Luminița Odobescu added that with the European Moldova Assembly (on May 21), the Republic of Moldova showed the whole world that Moldovans have a great desire for a future in the European Union, with a well-defined timeframe. “Today, the Republic of Moldova is strengthening its resilience in the energy sector through measures to build energy independence, as well as in the field of defense, to strengthen political dialogue and technical assistance from the European Union and NATO. Today there is a regime of European Union sanctions against actions to destabilize the Republic of Moldova”, Odobescu added.
The Romanian foreign minister declared that the Republic of Moldova has a true friend in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bucharest, to whom it can always turn for help.
