The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu, had a telephone conversation with Luminița Odobescu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, during which they discussed the collaboration between diplomatic teams to facilitate the evacuation of civilians from the Gaza Strip.
“Through this collaboration, we have successfully evacuated 36 citizens of the Republic of Moldova from the Gaza Strip. These citizens are currently en route to Cairo, and as President Maia Sandu announced, they will later be taken on a special flight organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. Upon their arrival, they will be welcomed by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and accompanied home. I would like to express sincere thanks to the diplomats of our country, especially those from the Embassies in Israel and Turkey, as well as to the Romanian diplomats for the success of this joint mission and the evacuation of the citizens of our countries,” wrote Nicu Popescu in a post on a social media platform.
It should be noted that earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE) announced that it had received approval from Israeli and Egyptian authorities for the evacuation of Moldovan citizens from the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing. There is confusion regarding the number of Moldovan citizens, as the evacuation of 36 was announced, while it was previously reported that 51 had requested assistance to leave the Gaza Strip.
