U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken congratulated President Maia Sandu on winning the second round of Moldova’s presidential elections. The U.S. Embassy in Moldova published the statement on Tuesday, November 5.
“The United States of America extends its warmest congratulations to Maia Sandu on her re-election as President of the Republic of Moldova. President Sandu is the first president of Moldova to win a second term through popular vote, a historic achievement,” stated Antony Blinken.
As noted in the U.S. official’s statement following Moldova’s presidential elections, the Kremlin attempted to undermine the country’s democratic institutions.

According to the U.S. Secretary of State, the United States commends the people of Moldova for safeguarding their electoral process against an unprecedented level of Russian interference.
“The people of Moldova have made their will known. They are determined to continue building a European and democratic path, and their high level of participation in these elections reflects this commitment.
Moldova has prevailed, and the Kremlin’s attempts to undermine the will of the Moldovan people have failed. We stand with the people of Moldova as they continue to shape a democratic, prosperous, and European future,” stated the U.S. Secretary of State.
According to the final results announced by the Central Electoral Commission, Maia Sandu won the presidential elections held on November 3 in Moldova with 55.35% of the total votes.
Maia Sandu received 930,238 votes (55.35%), while her opponent, the Socialist Alexandr Stoianoglo, was supported by 750,370 voters (44.65%) in the second round.
