Denmark will prioritize the enlargement of the European Union (EU) when it assumes the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 July 2025. Denmark’s Minister for European Affairs, Marie Bjerre, emphasized this commitment, “Europe can become stronger through enlargement.” She hoped Denmark could support and accelerate negotiations for Moldova’s EU accession.
“In light of the war in Ukraine, now is the moment for enlargement. It is a significant focus for Denmark’s presidency. Europe must and can strengthen itself through enlargement. We aim to open as many negotiation clusters as possible with Moldova,” said Minister Bjerre.
Bjerre also stressed that Moldova’s progress on its European integration path depends on its political will and the quality of its reforms. “Everything must be based on merit. I know Moldova does not ask for shortcuts. I assured Minister Gherasimov that Denmark will assist in this process. I recognize the effort required, and we are here to support you. The pace of negotiations is up to you, and your energy inspires us,” she noted.
