Romania is building four new bridges over the Prut. Where they will be located and the current status of the projects

Four new bridges over the Prut River will be built by Romania to improve road connections with the Republic of Moldova, according to hotnews.ro. On Thursday, January 9, the company responsible for preparing the technical projects for each of the four bridges was designated.

The National Company for Road Infrastructure Management (CNAIR) in Romania announced the result of the procedure for awarding the contract for “Design services, feasibility study phase” for the following projects:

Lot 1 – New bridge over the Prut, Stanca (RO) – Costesti (MD); Lot 2 – New bridge over the Prut, Bumbata (RO) – Leova (MD); Lot 3 – New bridge over the Prut, Falciu (RO) – Leca (MD); Lot 4 – New bridge over the Prut, Raducaneni (RO) – Barboieni (MD).

“The winning bidder for the four lots in the public procurement procedure is SC. LIKE CONSULTING SRL, with a price of 1,100,000 RON, excluding VAT, for each lot,” CNAIR said.

The duration of each contract is 12 months from the start date of the respective contracts.

According to the road company, the effects of building the four bridges will be:

  • Increased transport capacity between the two countries and contributing to Moldova’s connectivity to European transport networks on Romanian territory and further on the territory of other EU member states;
  • Improving and optimizing the flow of goods transported by trucks that need to operate in the Port of Constanta;
  • Eliminating congestion at border crossing points.

Romania’s state budget will finance the contracts.
