Charles Michel stated at the Reinvent Moldova 2.0, organized by the Realitatea Media Group, that member states of the European Union must seriously address the issue of strengthening the defense sector.
The special guest of the event emphasized that security is essential for economic development. In his view, the European Union needs instruments to strengthen its defense system, including the creation of a Security Council.
“More than ever, economic development and the ambition to provide security are important. The EU should take security more seriously. We should launch instruments to improve the defense system. What does an EU Security Council mean? At the EU level, we need the ability to coordinate and accelerate the cooperation required in defense and the industrial base. We must do this immediately, together with our partners and colleagues, including Moldova. The second goal of this committee would be to create instruments that would allow us to react quickly whenever necessary,” Charles Michel explained.
In this context, Michel also said that EU states reacted from the first days after the start of the war in Iran and acted in unity.
Reinvent Moldova 2.0 serves as a platform for dialogue about the country’s European future and brings together political leaders, experts, and representatives of civil society.
