The UNDP Executive Committee approved the 2023-2027 Country Program for Moldova

On September 1, 2022, the UNDP Executive Committee approved the 2023-2027 Country Program for Moldova.

The four-year program provides assistance to the country in four major areas, supporting the vision of a society with a high degree of social cohesion, inclusive, fair and more resilient, as well as a better quality of life for everyone:

• Equitable and inclusive institutions and equal opportunities for human development – ​​institutions provide gender-sensitive, human rights-based and evidence-based services for all, including the most vulnerable people in Moldova;
• Participatory governance and social cohesion – a more responsible, transparent, human rights-based and gender-sensitive governance that enables all people in Moldova to participate and contribute to all spheres of life;
• Increased shared prosperity in a sustainable economy – all people in Moldova benefit from inclusive, competitive and sustainable economic development and fair/equal access to decent work and productive jobs;
• Ecological development, sustainable communities and resilience to disasters and climate change – all Moldovan people and institutions benefit from and contribute to ecological development and resilience, as well as the sustainable use of natural resources and the effective management of climate change and disaster risks .

Achieving a better quality of life for all people, as envisaged in the Moldova 2030 Strategy, is only possible if all people enjoy prosperity and the most vulnerable and marginalized are empowered to exercise their rights and effectively participate in all areas of life. Increased inclusion and resilience, peace and security are important prerequisites, enabling all people to contribute to the country’s social and economic transformation and accelerate the achievement of the SDGs.

“We appreciate the contribution of the new UNDP country program to the sustainable development of Moldova, through the important support provided in priority areas such as justice, renewable energy, the green economy and digitalization. Partnership and continuous support from the UNDP is important in overcoming the crises affecting the Republic of Moldova and for ensuring the well-being of the population”, said Gheorghe Leucă, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the UN.

“UNDP is well positioned to provide further support to the Government and has specific comparative advantages that include neutrality, expertise, rapid and integrated response, presence on the ground, strong and innovative partnerships, efficiency, as well as the ability to convene and mobilize the support of all actors around the Sustainable Development Goals and their advancement in Moldova”, noted Dima Al-Khatib, Resident Representative of UNDP in the Republic of Moldova.

In the period 2023-2027, UNDP will continue to assist Moldova in managing the multidimensional shocks caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis, as well as in strengthening its economic, social and environmental resilience.

The new UNDP country program document benefited from extensive consultations with Government, civil society, academia, the private sector and development partners. Based on the global strategic plan of the UNDP for the years 2022-2025, the document is also deeply anchored in the new UN Cooperation Framework and guided by the priorities of the Moldova 2030 National Development Strategy, by those of the Association Agreement to the European Union and other relevant international commitments of the country.

UNDP has been present in the Republic of Moldova since 1992, covering two thirds of the communities, including in the UTA Gagauzia and the Transnistrian region.
