A Moldovan qualified for the finals of the World Canoe Championship

The athletes from the Republic of Moldova registered a new victory! Canoeist Maria Olărașu, originally from Hâncești district, qualified for the finals of the World Canoe Championship, in the 500 meters category.

According to the National Olympic and Sports Committee, the athletes representing the Republic of Moldova began their evolutions at the Canoe Sprint World Championship in Canada. On the same day, August 4, Serghei Tarnovschi reached the semi-finals at the distance of 1000 meters.

The Canoe Sprint World Championship takes place in Halifax, Canada, and will end on August 7.

In May of this year, Maria Olărașu and Daniela Cociu won the bronze medal at the Canoe World Cup in Racice over the distance of 200 meters.

A year ago, the double Daniela Cociu – Maria Olărașu qualified for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, becoming the first female representatives in kayak canoe, participating in the prestigious sports event.
