The Chisinau Municipal Council meeting on May 29 once again descended into scandal after councillors from the PAS faction blocked the podium when the majority voted to appoint Svetlana Dogotaru as deputy mayor of the capital.
PAS councillors argued that the vote violated legal procedures because the municipality had not officially vacated the position through a formal dismissal decision concerning the previous office holder.
“How could you vote for such an important position in the municipality of Chisinau, appointing such a person in order to cover up another illegality regarding the dismissal from the previous position?” one PAS councillor asked from the podium.
Opposition councillors also demanded explanations about the appointment of people to senior positions within city hall before authorities complete all legal procedures.
The PAS faction and the Socialist-led majority have repeatedly clashed during previous Chisinau Municipal Council meetings.
The Chisinau Municipal Council approved the appointment of Svetlana Dogotaru, head of the General Directorate for Architecture, Urbanism, and Land Relations, as deputy mayor on May 29.
