Bulgarian Vice President in Chișinău: ‘Many Challenges Ahead, but with European Support, You Will Succeed’

Prime Minister Dorin Recean had a meeting with the Vice President of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova, who was on a working visit to the Republic of Moldova. The discussion between the officials focused on topics related to economic cooperation, tourism, and the initiation of infrastructure and energy projects.

“We want Bulgarians in Moldova to preserve their identity, and we discussed the transformation and development of the University in Taraclia. Together with the government in Sofia and with the support of higher education institutions in Bulgaria, we aim for it to become a regional university. In the context of Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, this will create new regional opportunities with European standards in education,” mentioned Dorin Recean.

The Vice President of Bulgaria acknowledged the level of development achieved by the Republic of Moldova in recent times and its progress towards European integration. Iliana Iotova also spoke about new agreements to be signed between the two countries, including the modernization of the University in Taraclia by introducing new study programs. She also referred to the establishment of cultural information centers that will promote better understanding and friendship between the two states.

“In recent years, the Republic of Moldova has made significant progress, and I congratulate you for choosing the path of modernization through integration into the EU. There are still many challenges to face, such as judicial reform, and combating corruption, and crime, but with the encouragement and support of European countries, you will succeed. Bulgaria stands with you,” mentioned the Vice President of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova.

During the meeting, it was also discussed that the activity of the joint Moldovan-Bulgarian intergovernmental commission would be resumed at the beginning of next year, and it will be hosted in Sofia.
