The perinatal center in the city of Edineț Edineț was equipped with high-performance equipment in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. The modern equipment worth 135,000 US dollars was provided by UNFPA Moldova – the UN Population Fund, with the financial support of the US Government.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Natalia Gavrilița, the US Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova H.S. Kent D. Logsdon, UNFPA Moldova Resident Representative Dr. Nigina Abaszada, as well as several representatives of APL and Edineț District Hospital.
“Equipment is vitally important. Women continue to give birth in all conditions, despite all crises. 280,000 citizens benefit from the services of this maternity hospital, and over 1,200 births take place annually on its premises. We are very happy to support the government in modernizing the maternity hospital and improving all the facilities. This means additional delivery and operating rooms, which will save the lives of newborns and their mothers”, said UNFPA Moldova Resident Representative, Dr. Nigina Abaszada.

The Edineț hospital is among the nine medical institutions equipped with medical equipment in the field of sexual and reproductive health.
“We consider it very important to help the population here, but also the Ukrainian refugees. Working with partners from UNFPA, we managed to secure funding for the project. It is a priority that newborns have the opportunity to have a better life and survive from day one. That’s what we do here. We are happy that we can help and contribute to this process”, said the US Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, E.S. Kent D. Logsdon.
During the months of October – November, the neonatal intensive care units and the gynecology units throughout the country are equipped with high-performance rescue equipment. At the same time, medical institutions are equipped with medical furniture and furniture for patient lounges. The total value of the equipment delivered to the nine medical institutions is 3.6 million US dollars.
Thus, by the end of the year, 22 delivery rooms, 14 operating rooms, 35 patient rooms and 8 intensive care rooms for newborns and mothers will be fully equipped. In this way, about 15 thousand children will be born in safer conditions.
