China has become the third-largest trading partner of the Republic of Moldova, following Romania and Ukraine. This statement was made by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Moldova, Yan Wenbin, in an exclusive interview with the State Informational Agency MOLDPRES.
According to the official, trade between China and the Republic of Moldova practically started from scratch and has now developed significantly.
“According to Moldovan statistics, last year the volume of trade between China and Moldova reached 957 million US dollars, and in the first half of this year, it reached 463 million US dollars, recording an increase of 11.88% compared to the same period last year,” said Yan Wenbin.

The Ambassador mentioned that the popularity of Moldovan products in the Chinese market is continuously growing.
“Both in China and Moldova, there is a saying: ‘Don’t give a man a fish, but teach him how to fish!’ In this regard, opening up the Chinese market more widely to Moldovan products is one of the ways we ‘teach Moldova to fish.’ I can say that, at present, I am the most active spokesperson and promoter of Moldovan agricultural products among Chinese consumers. The popularity and reputation of Moldovan wine in the Chinese market are continuously increasing. Through the efforts of our Embassy, Chinese customs authorities have simplified verification and approval procedures for the import of grape seed and sunflower seed meal from Moldova. The two sides are in the process of officially signing the relevant documents,” Yan Wenbin affirmed.
Furthermore, the official noted that the Chinese Embassy, in coordination with Moldovan authorities, has established a permanent coordination mechanism and will continue to actively promote access to the Chinese market for Moldovan products such as grape seeds, apples, table grapes, cherries, plums, and baby food.
