Chisinau is extending another power line across the Prut River. The EBRD provides a grant of 15.4 million euros

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provided a grant of 15.4 million euros for the construction of the 400 kV Balti-Suceava overhead power line, a crucial project for strengthening the energy security of the Republic of Moldova. Today, the Government approved the draft law to ratify the Agreement regarding this grant.

According to the plans, the line will connect the municipality of Balti in the Republic of Moldova with Suceava in Romania. Also, it will include the reconstruction of the Balti 400 kV power station. Additionally, the project will rehabilitate segments of the existing electrical networks and replace transformers and switching and protection elements.

The work should be finished by December 2027. The project will support the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European ENTSO-E network and create new opportunities for renewable energy sources.
