Codruța Kovesi: The use of European funds must be monitored

After talking with the head of state and members of the cabinet, Laura Codruța Kovesi also visisted the National Anticorruption Center. The Chief Prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office spoke with the head of the Center, Iulian Rusu, but also with officials from the Intelligence and Security Service, the National Integrity Agency, the Money Laundering Prevention and Combating Service, the General Inspectorate of Police, the Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service and the Inspectorate.

Kovesi pointed out that the authorities concerned must monitor the use of funds allocated by Europeans. At the same time, she pointed out that the start of joint investigations will demonstrate the determination of the Republic of Moldova to fight illegalities.

“Starting joint investigations would show that there is desire, courage and determination on the part of the authorities in the fight against corruption in all its aspects. You have a lot of work to do as you progress through Europe, especially as you will also oversee the use of European funds by the Republic of Moldova. In this sense, you have the full support of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office “, Kovesi pointed out.

In his turn, the head of the NAC, Iulian Rusu mentioned that in the fight against corruption the synergy of the efforts of all authorities that ensure the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova is essential, and to advance in investigating cases of high corruption and identifying and recovering assets transferred abroad. , we need collaboration with prosecutors from other jurisdictions. “I am firmly convinced that together we can identify the most effective methods of fighting corruption, in order to secure the country’s European path,” the official said.

Similar messages were sent by Laura Codruța Kovesi at the press conference she held with the Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco on Tuesday. The head of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office concluded that the institution will provide support to the Republic of Moldova, within the limits of its competences.
