EBRD Extends 150 Million Euro Loan for Moldova’s Road Infrastructure Upgrade

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide a loan of 150 million euros for the improvement of road infrastructure in the Republic of Moldova.

The loan agreement, approved on Friday by the members of the Foreign Policy and European Integration Committee of Parliament, stipulates that the financial resources will be used for the repair of two road sections.

Specifically, sector 2 of the beltway around the city of Chisinau, which is approximately seven kilometers long, will be repaired. The road will be expanded, creating four lanes of traffic. Additionally, authorities plan to rehabilitate the road section connecting the border with Romania, Leuseni, Chisinau, Dubasari, and the border with Ukraine, which spans a length of 85 kilometers.

It’s worth noting that the loan provided by the EBRD covers half of the total project costs. The other portion of the sum was secured from the European Investment Bank.

The loan will be disbursed in two installments, and the credit is set to be repaid by the year 2042.
