Energetic Renovation: 30 Universities and Hospitals in Moldova to Receive 73 Million Euros from the French Development Agency (AFD)

The French Development Agency (AFD) will invest 73 million euros in the energy renovation of 30 public buildings in the Republic of Moldova, including 16 universities and 14 district hospitals. Today, March 5, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the signing of a credit agreement between Moldova and AFD to implement this project.

Chisinau will house most of the educational buildings to be renovated, while medical institutions will be in Chisinau, Balti, and eight other districts across the country.

The project will improve the comfort and functionality of public buildings. Renovations will create better conditions for students, patients, and public employees. Energy efficiency measures will reduce energy consumption, resulting in significant savings for the public budget. The project will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The “Sustainable Public Infrastructure Development Initiative through Energy Efficiency Renovations (INSPIREE)” project will run for 5 years, following the signing of financing and grant agreements with AFD/KfW, totaling 73 million euros.

Of the total amount, AFD will provide 30 million euros as a loan, 38.7 million euros will come as a grant from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through KfW, and 4.3 million euros will be contributed by the Government of Moldova.
