Speaker of Parliament Igor Grosu warned that discussions about the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Transnistrian region are sensitive and potentially risky in the context of peace negotiations in Ukraine.
Speaking on Jurnal TV, the official stressed that the main concern is that the Republic of Moldova is not participating in these negotiations.
“This would mean decisions being discussed about us without us. And that is very dangerous for any state. We are not present at the negotiations, we do not know what is being discussed, we find out from sources. Right now, it is risky for the Republic of Moldova for the issue of Russian troop withdrawal to be discussed in a context where we are not yet a party,” Grosu said.
At the same time, he noted that authorities in Chisinau are trying to keep the issue on the agenda of international partners involved in the negotiation process. According to him, concrete steps regarding the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Transnistrian region could be discussed after peace is established in Ukraine.
The statements come after Kiril Budanov said that the issue is not currently on the agenda of ongoing negotiations.
