Institute for the Study of War: Kremlin could conduct false flag operation in Transnistria

Kremlin may be conducting a false flag operation in Transnistria, notes the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW). In a statement issued on February 23, US military researchers refer to statements by Kiev, Chisinau and Moscow.

According to ISW, statements from the Kremlin about possible provocations by the Ukrainians would be the preparation of the ground. At the same time, the analysis does not exclude the fact that the rhetoric could also be used to distract attention from the information regarding possible Russian diversions in Moldova.

“The Government of the Republic of Moldova denied the accusations of the Russian Ministry. The Ministry probably sought to promote this false narrative to distort Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenski’s warning to Moldovan President Maia Sandu that the Kremlin was preparing provocations in Moldova and its offer to help Moldova if Russian forces in Transnistria threatened Ukraine’s territorial integrity.”, experts believe.

The institute also states that provocations could follow in Chernihiv, on the border with Belarus. Thus, according to the researchers, Putin would try to make Lukashenko officially enter the war, the analysis also shows.
