Head of State Maia Sandu will meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarella on Tuesday, June 18, who will pay a two-day visit to Chisinau.
Sergio Mattarella’s visit is the first official visit of a President of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Moldova. Italy is one of the most important partners of our country. Italy hosts the largest community of Moldovans in the diaspora, which contributes to strengthening the ties between the two countries, developing the economy of both countries, and strengthening the bridges between people and communities based on cultural affinities.
“The Republic of Moldova cooperates with the Italian Republic on multiple levels. For example, in 2022-2023, Italy supported the establishment of several refugee reception centers and the purchase of 21 vehicles for the border police. In economic cooperation terms, Italy is Moldova’s sixth largest trading partner, with more than 1,200 Italian-owned companies in our country. Similarly, Italy’s generous contribution under the Support Platform for Moldova in 2022 and 2023 has offset part of the energy bills paid by our citizens during the cold season. Moldova and Italy also cooperate on the international security dimension, in the framework of peacekeeping missions under the aegis of the UN”, informs the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova.
