Joining NATO is salvation for Moldova. Oazu Nantoi about security risks for our country

The security risks facing the Republic of Moldova are not exhausted, and it is essential that as many citizens as possible understand that a peaceful and prosperous future is possible when joining the North Atlantic Alliance. This was stated by PAS MP Oazu Nantoi in the program “Expertise Hour.”

According to him, the most important problem of Moldovan society is the lack of cohesion and unity among citizens. If, hypothetically, there was a common vision of security issues, then the effectiveness of any support for its strengthening through NATO or other collective security organizations would increase exponentially.

“We must call a spade a spade. The only country that poses a threat to the Republic of Moldova is the Russian Federation. Today we are protected by the Ukrainian army, the Ukrainian people. However, we remember how on April 26-27 last year, Russian missiles destroyed the bridge over the harbor in Zatoka, we remember how Serpent Island was occupied, we remember that there was a real danger of an attack on the Republic of Moldova, both in 2014 and in the 2022 year,” added Nantoi.

According to him, every citizen must be aware of the reality. The Republic of Moldova is vulnerable and cannot independently resist external aggression. The air defense radar, which should be provided by NATO, is only a tool for detecting danger, not reflecting danger and protection.

That is why, argues Nantoi, the people of the Republic of Moldova must understand that the only solution which can bring peace and economic growth – is to be included in a collective defense system such as the North Atlantic Alliance.
