Parliamentary representatives from Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Greece signed a joint declaration in Chisinau supporting Moldova’s accession to the European Union. Croatia also intends to sign the document, although officials postponed the Zagreb delegation’s visit, according to MP Marcel Spatari, head of the parliamentary Committee on European Integration.

Deputies from the foreign affairs committees of the four EU member states travelled to Chisinau and signed the declaration during their visit. The Croatian representatives planned to participate as well, but they delayed their arrival, Spatari said.

“We know this path unfolds in a complex geopolitical context marked by disinformation, external interference, and security challenges. We must maintain unity and a firm commitment to the European path. We need the support of European states. We will continue to implement the necessary reforms and maintain the pace of ongoing transformations,” Spatari said.

Meanwhile, the EU Foreign Affairs Council and an intergovernmental conference are taking place in Luxembourg, where Moldova presents its position on the first EU accession negotiation cluster, whose opening the EU announced last week.

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said she expects the next negotiation clusters to open in July.
