President Maia Sandu said on Thursday, December 19, that despite the economic difficulties, Moldovan citizens will not pay more for gas consumption than in the previous year. Speaking at a press conference, Sandu emphasized that in the context of the energy crisis, the price of electricity will increase from January 1, 2025, in case of an energy crisis, bani.md reports.
“I want to emphasize that we will not pay more for gas than last year. It is an essential measure to protect citizens in a complicated economic period. However, as far as electricity is concerned, if the energy crisis continues, it is very clear that the price will go up. We are in an uncertain period, and the authorities are doing their utmost to limit the impact on the population.
The Cuciurgan on the left bank of the Dniester supplies 50% of the electricity needs of the right bank. In the event of a halt in Russian gas supplies, Chisinau would have to turn to the Romanian market, where the price of a MWh averages €188.
