Maia Sandu, the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) candidate for the Moldovan presidency has held multiple meetings with Moldovan communities in Turin, Parma, and Bologna. She expressed amazement at how connected citizens remain to events in Moldova, even from over 2,000 kilometers away. “The people see and appreciate our efforts to transform Moldova,” she stated.
During her visit, Sandu spoke with several young women in Turin who have successfully launched businesses. Daniela, Ioana, and Veronica manage a restaurant, a flower shop, and a gelateria (ice cream shop), respectively.
“I had a warm discussion with the Moldovan community in Turin and its outskirts. It’s incredible how engaged our citizens are with developments back home. They see the transformation—we’re constructing roads, aqueducts, and sewer systems; repairing kindergartens and schools; modernizing hospitals; and creating better conditions for businesses,” Sandu remarked.
Sandu also highlighted government measures to support entrepreneurs. “At home, the state provides backing through non-refundable funds, access to favorable credit, and the opening of new export markets. In the coming years, we aim to support citizens returning to live in Moldova by establishing three regional bureaus to assist young people and families with reintegration,” she noted.

Her discussions continued in Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, and Piacenza, where she emphasized the vibrant and active Moldovan community. “These engaged citizens have fought for years to uphold the Diaspora’s right to vote. We have made significant progress at home toward positive development,” Sandu explained.
“We cannot stop halfway. We must continue development projects in cities and villages, including community centers, parks, sports complexes, and water supply systems. We should modernize hospitals and schools and advance our afforestation program. United, we are a powerful force! Step by step, we are building a safe and comfortable country for everyone—together, we are shaping a European Moldova!” Sandu asserted.
Sandu discussed the country’s future with Moldovans in Bologna, visiting the restaurant and wine shop owned by two young entrepreneurs, Aliona and Vitalie, who promote Moldovan wines.
“We share the confidence that we are stronger when united. We all desire a safe country. I urged people to seek information from reliable sources, support our efforts against misinformation, and mobilize to vote for a future in our hands. “We will build a peaceful and prosperous future in the European Union,” Sandu said.
Presidential elections and a constitutional referendum on Moldova’s EU accession will be on October 20. Eleven candidates are competing for the presidency, with the electoral campaign concluding on October 18, just two days before the polls.
