The so-called ‘referendums’ organized by Russia to annex four regions of Ukraine are fake. This was stated by President Maia Sandu during the “Secretele Puterii” show on Jurnal TV.
“We do not recognize either the referendums or the results of these referendums. We continue to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine within the internationally recognized borders”, the Head of State pointed out.
Sandu added that Moldovan citizens who also hold Russian citizenship and who willingly go to fight on the side of the aggressor, risk losing their citizenship of the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, citizens of the Republic of Moldova who do not also hold the citizenship of the Russian Federation and who go to fight in Ukraine risk being criminally punished. According to the head of state, this punishment must be toughened, and in the following days the Ministry of Justice will come up with proposals in this regard.
She also stated that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova do not have information that referendums similar to those in the occupied areas of Ukraine would be organized in the Transnistrian region.
“I don’t think that’s possible in the immediate future because there’s no such information, but obviously what’s happening today, what Russia is doing in Ukraine is a violation of international law and that has to worry us all,” stated Maia Sandu.
We remind you that referendums were organized in four occupied regions of eastern Ukraine: Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson. Their results showed that most of the voters ‘demanded’ the joining of Kherson, Zaporozhye, Donetsk and Luhansk regions to the Russian Federation.
