Maia Sandu will attend the EPP Congress in Rotterdam

The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, will attend the Congress of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Rotterdam from 31 May to 1 June. The announcement was made today by the Presidential Administration in Chisinau.

The presidency announces that the head of state will take part in the enlarged EPP Summit with EU and non-EU heads of state and government. Maia Sandu will also have meetings with several heads of state and government in the European Union.

The European People’s Party is a European center-right party, one of the largest transnational parties represented in the EU Parliament. The EPP was founded in 1976 by Western Christian Democrat parties, but later received conservative European parties or other center-right political parties.

The EPP is the most influential party in Europe. It is the largest party in the European Parliament since 1999, the European Council since 2002 and is by far the largest party in this European Commission. The President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission belong to the EPP. Many of the founding “parents” of the European Union were also members of the parties that later formed the EPP. Outside the EU, the party holds a majority in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

It is worth mentioning that the ruling party in Chisinau, PAS, is also a member of the EPP family.
