Maia Sandu’s Statement on Unverifiable Rocket Incident near Dniester River

The Moldovan authorities cannot verify the situation on the ground with the rocket that fell in the Transnistrian region. The statement was made by the head of state during a TV8 interview.

“We cannot verify on the spot what happened because it occurred on the territory of the Transnistrian region, where our authorities cannot investigate what happened. But, in any case, this happened because of the war. Bombs fall because there is a war in Ukraine, and the war was provoked by Russia. This is clear to anyone,” stated Maia Sandu.

We would like to remind that on the night of September 24th to 25th, the Odesa region was heavily attacked by Russia, and the explosions were heard even by residents in Tiraspol and Bender.

As a result, fragments of an S-300 missile fell in a garden in the village of Chițcani on the left bank of the Dniester River.

Subsequently, authorities in Chișinău responded after missile fragments fell on the territory of the Transnistrian region last night. The Ministry of Defense stated that military observers from the Joint Peacekeeping Forces have been dispatched to the scene. At this stage, the origin of the identified object is not clear, and the trajectory has not been confirmed by independent sources.

State authorities will continue to keep the public informed as we receive more verified information regarding this incident.
