May 21, 2023 – a long-awaited day! The Grand National Assembly Square, booked by Maia Sandu, Ilan Şor and Igor Dodon. How is that possible?!

The head of state, Maia Sandu announced in a press briefing on Monday evening, April 10, the convening of the “European Moldova” National Assembly. The president urged Moldovans to gather on May 21, 2023, in the Grand National Assembly Square (GNAS), because “now is the time to unite and become part of the European family”.

The next day, April 11, the State Chancellery of the Republic of Moldova submitted a request to Chisinau City Hall to reserve the GNAS for May 21. On the Chisinau City Hall website, it is mentioned that the meeting will start at 08:00 and end at 22:00. According to the plan, 50,000 people would come to the announced event.

Surprisingly, however, the Great National Assembly Square was reserved for May 21 by the socialists, as early as May 30, 2019.

The PSRM reserved the square for whole years, even until 2025, although we are only in 2023. According to the PSRM, 20,000 people would come to the rally organized by them, from 08:00 until at 22:00.

Also on May 21, the Civic Initiative “Movement for the People”, which includes several activists and politicians, including the “ŞOR” Party, plans to protest all day, also in the Great National Assembly Square.

At the Chisinau City Hall, the organizers of the demonstration requested that this particular location be reserved, mentioning that at this meeting will be coming 50,000 people. They registered their request on April 5th.

According to the legislation, if there are several requests for meeting for the same location and the same time, the local public authorities must organize consultations with the authors of the requests to decide who is doing what.
