Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi held a telephone discussion today, November 26, with Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Sa’ar, regarding the terrorist attack in the United Arab Emirates, which resulted in the death of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, a citizen of both the Republic of Moldova and Israel.
“Today, I had a phone conversation with Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, about recent developments in the Middle East, including the terrorist attack in the United Arab Emirates that led to the death of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, a citizen of the Republic of Moldova and Israel.
The Republic of Moldova condemns this terrorist attack, which caused the death of Rabbi Kogan, an act of exceptional gravity that cannot be tolerated in any form,” reads a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
The Israeli official expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown by the Republic of Moldova and for the cooperation in addressing this tragic situation. Gideon Sa’ar also highlighted the importance of international collaboration in combating terrorism and promoting a stable security environment for all citizens, regardless of nationality.

During the discussion, the officials reviewed progress in bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and Israel and explored possibilities for further strengthening their cooperation.
We remind readers that on Sunday, November 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova was informed by UAE authorities about the death of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, the leader of the Jewish community in Abu Dhabi. Rabbi Kogan, a citizen of both Israel and Moldova, resided in the UAE based on his Moldovan citizenship and held resident status.
It is alleged that Rabbi Kogan had been under surveillance by Iranian special services, with some accusing Tehran’s administration of involvement in his death. According to Haaretz, Kogan was reportedly kidnapped and killed, with his disappearance first reported on Thursday.
Israeli authorities are treating Kogan’s death as a potential terrorist attack. The Israeli intelligence agency Mossad has launched an investigation in collaboration with local authorities in the United Arab Emirates.
